Definitions of living characteristics



Reproduction
Organisms can produce new individuals(offspring). This process is called reproduction.

Nutrition
Organisms obtain food for energy, growth and maintaining health. This process is called nutrition.

Respiration
Organisms can break down food to release stored energy by a process called respiration.

Irritability(Sensitivity)
Organisms can detect changes in their environment(stimuli) and make response. This ability is called irritability(sensitivity).

Excretion
Organisms remove waste products produced from chemical reactions in their bodies(metabolic wastes). The process is called excretion.

Growth
Growth is the process by which organism increase in size and complexity.

Movement
Organisms move freely from place to place or show a limited degree of movement.. This ability is called movement.
